In addition to the stellar music and Connie Britton's always flawless hair, fans of Nashville can expect even more drama for the series' return to television. CMT announced that two new characters will be added to the cast for the two-hour series premiere on Thursday, Jan. 5. Joseph David-Jones and Cameron Scroggins will join the cast as recurring characters.
David-Jones will play Clay, a charming but emotionally troubled aspiring musician. Scroggins will portray Zach Welles, a young, nerdy Silicon Valley billionaire with big plans for Rayna James' career. Knowing the Music City drama's flair for the dramatic this new venture will probably bring trouble for the country diva. But there's a good chance we'll get a good song and a classic Rayna James (Connie Britton) zinger out of it.
The news comes on the heels of the announcement that Nashville will be refocusing on music for the new season. Fans can expect more original songs and performances at the iconic Bluebird Cafe. And with talented musicians such as Americana artist Rhiannon Giddens joining the cast, it's easy to see why.
Cast members Will Chase (Luke Wheeler) and Aubrey Peebles (Layla Grant) did not sign on for the new season.
Nashville season five kicks off Thursday, Jan. 5 on CMT. Episodes will be available to stream on Hulu the day after they air.
