A Nashville country legend has tragically passed away after a performance at a church. As reported by AL.com, Jimmy Nichols sadly passed away in his sleep.
David Pack, a longtime collaborator of Nichols', confirmed the passing of the Nashville star on social media. "Dear Friends, I'm sad to announce the passing of a Nashville-based legendary keyboardist, music director (Reba & Faith Hill), producer Jimmy Nichols."
Pack described his working relationship with the star. "He was my live keyboardist for over 15 years and dearest friend." According to MusicRow, Nichols was also known for being a session keyboardist, having worked for legends like Tim McGraw and Carrie Underwood.
He went on to describe the night before his tragic death. "I recently sang at a benefit (Every Breath She Takes) for Jimmy's beloved wife Tonya who needs a lung transplant. This concert had an unexpected second purpose: it also became Jimmy's farewell," he lamented.
"Last night he played at a church service in Franklin, TN, then went home and passed in his sleep." Pack finished the statement with condolences to Tonya and Nichols' friends. "And yes brother, 'God Only Knows'."
According to Suggest, the Nashville-based legend was born in Columbus, Ohio. He was a member of the Nichols Brothers, who had a 24-year stint of touring nationwide.
Just two weeks before he passed, the Ohio Country Music Hall of Fame inducted the star into their ranks.
