A newly elected Idaho mayor died suddenly on Wednesday night after collapsing during a public meeting.

The incident unfolded at a town hall event in Eagle, Idaho, when Nampa Mayor Rick Hogaboam suffered what officials described as a "medical emergency" while speaking.
Fellow mayors and emergency responders rushed to help, but despite their efforts, Hogaboam could not be saved.
Mayor Dies After Collapsing During Idaho Town Hall Meeting
The medical emergency occurred around 6:45 p.m., with Eagle Mayor Brad Pike, who was seated next to Hogaboam, among the first to react.
Pike, a former firefighter, recognized the seriousness of the situation and "immediately responded to Mayor Hogaboam by administering CPR."
Staff from the Treasure Valley Partnership quickly called emergency services as the room was cleared and the meeting was adjourned.
According to officials, as cited by the Idaho News, the Ada County Sheriff's Office, Eagle Fire District and Ada County EMS all responded to the scene and took over care.
Despite extensive life-saving efforts, Hogaboam died at the scene.

In a statement, officials noted that Hogaboam was new to his role and had previously worked for the city of Nampa and Canyon County.
His office later
confirmed the news of his passing."It is with the deepest sadness that we must report Mayor Rick Hogaboam experienced a medical emergency tonight. And has passed away," the statement read. "We ask the community to please keep his family and loved ones in your prayers during this incredibly difficult time."
"As we begin to mourn this unbelievable loss, please provide grace. While we navigate the loss of not only our Mayor. But also our friend."
According to KTVB, city staff are expected to meet to discuss next steps following Hogaboam's sudden death.
A spokesperson said the city council president will serve as acting mayor until a permanent replacement is appointed.
The shocking incident also affected others in attendance.
KTVB also reported that Caldwell Mayor Eric Phillips suffered a "possible anxiety attack" following the event. Phillips later shared that he "started getting a chest pain, got dizzy, and laid down."
He was treated by medical professionals at the scene before being taken to the hospital. He was later cleared and released.
