According to WKRN, the incident took place in South Nashville on Thursday, April 24. At around 12:45 a.m., officers arrived at a gas station located on Murfreesboro Pike after a burglary alarm was set off. Upon arrival, officers found a clothesless woman in need of medical assistance. The woman, who remains unidentified, had suffered multiple injuries.

When interviewed by responding officers, the woman said that she and her ex-boyfriend, Jenkins, had argued earlier in the day. As a result, Jenkins allegedly ripped her clothes off and attempted to strangle her. Metro police revealed that Jenkins allegedly pointed an AR-style rifle at her, forcing her inside his car.

While in the car, Jenkins allegedly told the woman that he was driving to J. Percy Priest Lake to "watch her drown." Reportedly, the woman didn't know how to swim, so she became even more fearful. As Jenkins drove, he allegedly punched her continuously. When the vehicle stopped, court documents allege that Jenkins strangled her with both hands.

Escaping

Eventually, however, the woman managed to jump out of Jenkins' moving car onto Murfreesboro Pike. The woman reportedly hid in a bush while Jenkins allegedly turned the vehicle around to search for her. After the coast was clear, she arrived at the local gas station, asking for help. She hid in the store until authorities arrived.

According to the Davidson County Sheriff's Office, Marquintis Kishun Jenkins was arrested later on April 24. He was charged with two charges of aggravated assault - strangulation, criminal homicide, kidnapping with a deadly weapon/object, interference with emergency call, theft of property, threats and harassment, and vandalism.

As per PEOPLE, Jenkins is currently being held at the Downton Detention Center in Nashville, Tennessee, on a $260,000 bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for Monday, April 28, appearing in front of Judge Ana L. Escobar at Birch Building in Courtroom 4B.
