Unsurprisingly, the 600-Lb life star, Latonya Pottain, has died aged only 40.

Appearing on the show for obsessive overeaters, Latonya Pottain was known for being unrecoverable. Despite doctors repeatedly telling her that she needs to stop feeding herself, she refused. She told doctors that eating helped with stress. The stress on her body was fatal.
Being 600 pounds like Latonya Pottain comes with a very short lifespan. Being unhealthily overweight puts enormous strain on your vital organs. In the case of Latonya, her heart couldn't take it anymore.
The body was never meant to be as big as hers was. It needs healthy food, regular exercise, and a normal size to function for a good length of time. When it is pushed to extremes like this, the life span of a person drops dramatically. I don't think anyone expected her to live to 45 without some serious lifestyle changes.
No Autopsy Needed
The coroner has deemed that there will not need to be any investigation into the cause of death for Latonya Pottain. She suffered congestive heart failure only hours after spending time with her family. Her brother noted that on the last day he saw her, she was looking unwell and out of breath.
A year previously, The Sun reported on a Facebook message she posted, calling for prayers. "Y'all pray for me my heart not working right and there is nothing more the doctors can do here in Louisiana please keep me lifted."
Her appearance on the 11th season of 600-lb Life revealed that Lotonya Pottain was unwilling to be helped. Even with a trainer, she refused to stop eating. "When I eat, it takes the stress away," she said on the show. "That's what I do to help me cope with things."
However, in 2023, she revealed she was trying to lose weight. "I'm back with my trainer, I'm dieting and my weight is going down," Pottain told the Shreveport Times in 2023. "I'm also moving to be closer to my family so I can get my weight down and get my surgery."
But fast forward to 2024 and Pottain was bed-bound. She weighed nearly 740 pounds, launching a GoFundMe for health costs.
"I worked extremely hard to get it down," Pottain wrote. "My journey with weight struggles has been a long and difficult one. In 2022, I was featured on 'My 600-lb Life,' where I started at 531 pounds and worked hard to get down to 505 pounds. However, after the show aired, I experienced overwhelming backlash, which sent me into a deep depression. My mental health suffered, and I became fearful of undergoing weight loss surgery."
Sadly, Pottain never got the help that she needed.
