Grammy Award-Winning Music Producer Dies at 69

Grammy Award-winning British music producer William Orbit has died at 69, prompting tributes from across the music world.

British music producer William Orbit has died at the age of 69.

Orbit was best known for his influential work with some of the biggest names in music, including Madonna, Blur and All Saints.

His family and friends announced the sad news through his Instagram account, revealing that he died at home on July 23.

Orbit's loved ones shared the statement with his 25,000 Instagram followers on August 7.

"We are deeply saddened by his passing," the statement said. "He will be greatly missed by us and by so many whose lives he touched through his music, friendship and kindness."

"We kindly ask that the privacy of William's family and close friends is respected during this difficult time."

Tributes quickly poured in for the acclaimed producer, including messages from Fatboy Slim and Katy B.

"Rest in peace, my friend," Fatboy Slim wrote. "You were a trailblazer and a gentleman. We owe you a debt of gratitude."

Meanwhile, Katy B said, "I remember going to William's studio Many years ago, I was so nervous but he was so warm and unassuming and genuinely curious about me and my music I still remember how welcome I felt . What an amazing legacy and major loss."

William Orbit Worked With Some of Music's Biggest Stars

Orbit played a major role in Madonna's 1998 album Ray of Light, helping the pop superstar embrace a more electronic sound.

The pair continued working together on Madonna's 1999 single "Beautiful Stranger," which featured in the second Austin Powers movie. Orbit also contributed to her 2000 album Music.

His impressive list of credits extended far beyond Madonna.

Orbit produced Blur's 1999 album 13, which featured hit singles including "Tender" and "Coffee & TV."

He also worked with Spice Girls star Mel C on her 1999 debut solo album, Northern Star, before producing All Saints' chart-topping singles "Pure Shores" and "Black Coffee" in 2000.

All Saints songwriter Shaznay Lewis responded to the announcement of Orbit's death with a broken-heart emoji.

Mel C also paid tribute, writing, "Such an honour to have worked with this great man. Sending all my love."

Alongside his work with other artists, Orbit released 12 solo studio albums, largely exploring electronic music.

He was also a member of the groups Bassomatic and Torch Song.
