Pat Monahan and his son have been receiving nonstop criticism since they performed the national anthem at a recent Monday Night Football game. It's gotten so bad that a growing number of fans are calling it the worst they've ever heard.

Shockingly, Pat is an experienced performer and is the frontman for American rock band Train. The group is best known for hits such as "Hey, Soul Sister" and "Drop Of Jupiter (Tell Me)."
Interestingly, Pat had previously spoken of his reluctance to perform the national anthem. He had a similarly negative experience when performing in 2014. Notably, the performance came at the same California stadium as this time around, Levi's Stadium. At the time, Pat noted that he'd be willing to perform the anthem again if he had his son with him. Ultimately, that is exactly what happened.
In fairness, the national anthem is challenging for everyone. Some people struggle to hit the notes or make the performance their own. Still, if Pat knew the performance wasn't playing to his strengths, you have to wonder why he agreed to perform in the first place.
Unfortunately for Pat and his son, it didn't take long for social media to take hold of his performance. That's when the criticism started pouring in.
Internet Reacts To Pat Monahan and Son's Performance
"Maybe THE worst national anthem I've ever heard. Good grief. Who booked this? You're FIRED!" one fan wrote on X, sharing a clip of the performance along with it.
"I'm glad I'm not the only one that thought that was terrible," another fan wrote when acknowledging the common consensus regarding Pat and his son's performance. "How about we just sing the song and let the words do the work, eh? I was seriously embarrassed."
Another fan questioned the decision to have the melody played on guitar: "My ears, why is the melody being played on guitar too?"
The comments regarding Pat's performance were plentiful. Unfortunately for him, they were almost all negative in nature. Given his previous reluctance, it's fair to assume that this will be the last time we see him performing the national anthem. After all, why would you voluntarily open yourself up to such ridicule for a third time?
