Multiple Students Injured After Railing Collapses During Game
The incident occurred at the Minnesota Vikings' training facility. Minnesota high schools Creit-Derham Hall and St. Thomas Academy faced off at TCO Stadium last Thursday (September 3). During the match, the railing collapsed, leaving several individuals injured and in need of medical attention. In a statement following the incident, the Vikings confirmed that those individuals were released after being treated. One student was sent to the hospital for extended treatment. But that student has since been released.
"Several individuals were treated onsite for minor injuries and released by EMS. While one student was transported to a local hospital for evaluation," the Minnesota Vikings said in a statement obtained by KARE 11. "We are thankful to hear that the student has since been released. We remain in contact with school officials to ensure no other injuries have been reported."
The team also said that they have met with contractors and maintenance workers at the facility. To evaluate the damage to the building's infrastructure and begin repairs.
St. Thomas Academy also released a statement following the incident in which they wish all of the injured students a "speedy recovery."
"While we are competitors on the field, our only concern today is the health and well-being of the Cretin-Derham Hall students injured after last night's game. We are sending our strongest support to the Raiders community. And hoping for a speedy, full recovery for everyone affected," the statement reads (via KARE 11).
More high school games are scheduled to happen at the Vikings training headquarters throughout the high school football season.
As for a plan going forward, the team also added that they are continuing to have discussions about "short- and long-term measures." In an effort to prevent such an incident from happening in the future.
