A Boeing 767 cargo plane has crashed into a road just outside of Miami International Airport. As reported by NBC News, the chilling incident occurred around 2:00 pm local time on Sunday.
Initial reports explained that the plane had departed from San Juan in Puerto Rico before arriving in Miami. Videos showing the scene show that the plane crashed onto a road outside the airport. Authorities have suggested that the plane overshot its landing before crashing.
The origin of the cargo plane remains disputed. Whilst the FAA had identified the cargo plane as a 21 Air flight, a Miami International Airport spokesperson said it was a Prime Air flight. Prime Air uses 21 Air as one of its flight companies - however, nothing is confirmed at this time, as Amazon did not respond to a request for comment from the outlet.
Per the New York Post, the wreckage itself lay almost intact on the road. People near the wreckage reported billowing smoke and fires near the fuselage of the plane.
Following the accident, the MIA spokesperson confirmed that all runways and taxiways have been closed. A ground stop had been implemented soon after the incident.

Emergency Responders Posted a Statement About the Plane Crash
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue posted on social media about the incident at 3:25 pm local time. They wrote, "Over 60 Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units are on scene of an incident involving a plane that overran a runway and struck multiple vehicles near Miami International Airport."
"Units arrived to find an airplane that had caught on fire as a result of this crash, with heavy flames and smoke showing. Firefighters are working on extinguishing the fire and assessing patients."
Per the BBC, the Fire Service also explained that they will "provide additional updates on patients as they become available."
It is unclear whether anyone has perished following the tragic accident, despite Miami-Dade Fire Rescue mentioning "patients." BNO News has stated that there were "multiple fatalities," but this has not yet been confirmed by authorities.
