City Bus Runs Over Mother And Nearly Hits Child
This accident occurred in the Varzea Grande municipality of Brazil's Mato Grosso state. Video footage captured the harrowing moment as the bus came off the main highway. It hit the unsuspecting mother as it curved around the corner, knocking her off her feet.
As she fell and skidded on the road, her daughter's stroller, a toy car, fell backward near the bus. Luckily, the wheels allowed her to skid down the road faster than the bus' wheel. As soon as the bus stopped, its front right wheel was mere inches from the child's head.
The young mother rushed over to pick up her daughter and look into the Uniao Transportes bus that nearly hit her daughter. The bus driver and conductor soon stepped out to apologize profusely.
CCTV Footage and reports of the event only appeared a week ago after the child's grandfather reported it. "They are both psychologically shaken," he said as per Daily Mail. "My granddaughter gets scared when she sees a car. I was scared too, I could have lost both my daughter and granddaughter. Every time I watch the video, I cry."
In response to the incident, the local government said it sent a repair team to fix the pothole. On top of that, the bus company apologized and the bus driver who hit the mother must take defensive driving lessons.
This incident has come to light not too long after a similar event occurred in Texas. On January 2, a semi-truck struck a 15-year-old student as she was exiting her school bus. Unfortunately, the accident was fatal, leading Texas police to arrest the 41-year-old driver. They charged Gregory Jackson with criminal negligent homicide.
The Department of Public Safety said the bus had stopped and flashed its red lights while dropping off the student. Behind the bus came a 28-year-old woman driving a Toyota, and behind that was Jackson's 18-wheeler. His truck hit the Toyota and then veered right toward the student.
