On April 2nd, Karmelo Anthony allegedly pulled a knife from his bag, and stabbed Austin Metcalf at a track meet. He was detained and arrested. He admitted to the crime at the scene, claiming he was acting in self-defense. Now, he is facing charges of first-degree murder.
As always, a GoFundMe was started for the victim of the stabbing. However, another was also started for Karmelo Anthony following his arrest. This was to aid in paying his court, bail, and other costs. Many people poured money into it, with the funds quickly reaching $400,000.
This was more than enough for the bail which was set at $250,000. However, the family struggled to access the funds. It is rumoured that NBA YoungBoy stepped up and paid it in their stead. However, this has not yet been confirmed.
Since the incident, his family has come under a huge amount of abuse, harassment, and pressure. For the first time since his arrest, the mother of Karmelo Anthony has spoken about their ordeal.
Karmelo Anthony's Family Under Fire
Rumours quickly circulated that the GoFundMe set up in aid of Karmelo Anthony was used by the family to buy luxury goods. It was said that they had purchased a house, a luxury car, and other items with the money. This came as a result of certain outlets reporting on the family's recent move to a gated community, now living in a house with a $3,500 a month price tag.
However, they have revealed that they have not been able to touch a dime of the Karmelo Anthony GoFundMe money. "'We were just notified yesterday that we could begin to withdraw funds, and it still takes several days to receive those funds once the request is made," she said.
The home they are living in is to protect them from the "unimaginable amount of hate, racism, and threats to their safety" they have received. It is being supplied by a group known as the Next Generation Action Network. They are assisting the family throughout their difficult emotional and legal battle.

Keep your hands to yourself, and this never happens.
