Almost three years after Isabelly 's death, the Public Ministry of Paraná has finally charged the Dazar dos Santos, according to PEOPLE. It is the Public Prosecutor's Office of Paraná that "classified the crime as intentional homicide."
CNN Brasil obtained a complaint currently being processed at the Criminal Court of Cascavel. Allegedly, Dazar dos Santos placed the 3-year-old Isabelly on a bench in front of the washing machine. Said appliance was filled with water and, possibly to entice the girl, Dazar dos Santos also placed toys in the machine. She then left the toddler alone in the room.
Jealousy
According to G1, the alleged crime was motivated by jealousy due to the close relationship between Isabelly's father and her biological mother. Dazar dos Santos' attorney defended their client by saying that Isabelly's death was an accident. Moreover, they said at the time she had a good relationship with her stepdaughter. However, Isabelly's biological mother's attorney claimed that Dazar dos Santos "prepared the entire situation for the crime to happen."
Alex dos Santos Assumpção, Isabelly's father, talked with the outlet after Suzana Dazar dos Santos was charged with murder. Still, Alex continues to feel the pain of Isabelly's death.
"Nothing will repair the loss, having lost her, but justice will calm our hearts a little. [...] Due to the evidence that we have, that has come and that is yet to come, we believe that they are absolutely right," he told the outlet. "These recent times have not been easy for us, because it is an irreparable loss. I can say that I do not want anyone to go through what we went through, but I want justice to be served."
"We are very happy with the MP's statement.," Alex continued, saying that they always believed in justice. "And the facts are there, and there is more to come. We have never accused anyone. We just want justice for our daughter."
UOL reports that the Public Prosecutor's Office is requesting a jury trial.
