A 31-year-old South Carolina mother named An T. Ngo has been accused of brutally murdering her newborn boy in what is called an extremely gruesome act. Allegedly, Ngo, while giving birth to her boy, stabbed him multiple times with a "metal letter opener," killing him and placing him in a trash bag.

According to WHNS, on Friday, March 7, the Easley Police Department received a call about a woman who had given birth at an apartment complex. Then, police and emergency services arrived at the scene at about 8:30 p.m. As soon as they arrived, they discovered the newborn baby inside a trash bag in one of the apartment's rooms. Reportedly, after discovering the newborn's injuries, they declared him dead on the spot.
PEOPLE reviewed an arrest warrant detailing how Ngo allegedly carried out the murder. The warrant alleged that after Ngo cut the newborn's umbilical cord, she stabbed him multiple times with a "long, metal letter opener." The dead newborn was then allegedly placed inside a bag and then placed in another room in the apartment.
An T. Ngo was transferred to a local hospital to receive treatment. Days later, on March 11, police arrested Ngo after she was released from the hospital. She appeared at Easley Municipal Court later in the day and was charged with homicide by child abuse. A judge denied bail and is currently being held in custody. Her next court appearance is scheduled for May 15.
Seeking Justice
Easley Police Chief Brandon Liner spoke about the case, appearing horrified by the gruesome details of the alleged murder.
"I will be honest with you: I've been doing this for two and a half decades, and I have never seen anything this gruesome," Liner said. "I've never seen anything this bad."
Liner then confirmed that Ngo had the baby in the apartment. Moreover, he stated that it was "very apparent " that Ngo was the one who "tragically murdered this child."
Moved by the case, Liner said that they would bring justice in his name. "We will speak for this baby," Liner said. "We will make sure that this baby will receive justice. It didn't have a chance at life. Not long."
