As reported by WLBT, Albert Creath, who used to own the now defunct Creath Memorial Services, used storage units at an iStorage location on Reed Road. Creath was allegedly offering funeral and burial services even after he reportedly lost both his business and license.

Washington County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Billy Barber revealed that deputies answered a report of a casket with a body inside at the location. Moreover, while talking with Delta News, Barber mentioned that that specific storage was known to deputies as several burglaries had occurred in the past.

"Deputies had actually been to that particular storage because they had reported some burglaries," Barber said. "There's a chance the burglars could've actually ran upon it. But we don't know."

When deputies arrived, they made the startling discovery. Allegedly, Creath had been using the storage unit as an illegal funeral home and was even charging for his services.

According to Chief Deputy Barber, Creath was charged with improper desecration of corpses. A judge granted Creath a $600,000 bond.

Defunct Funeral Home

According to Fox News Digital, Creath's former business was dissolved on December 1, 2024. Reportedly, he failed to re-register the LLC. However, Creath Memorial Services' TikTok account remains online. Several of its videos are flagged as sensitive content as they show open caskets with the dead bodies on full display.

Greenville Mayor Errick D. Simmons addressed the incident by sharing a statement on

Facebook.

"The discovery of human remains in a storage unit in our city is deeply disturbing and raises serious concerns that demand a thorough investigation," Simmons said. "My thoughts and prayers are with the families who may be affected by this tragic situation."

"Greenville is a community that values dignity, respect, and the rule of law. We will not tolerate any actions that violate those principles. I urge anyone with information to come forward and assist authorities in their investigation."

Mayor Simmons added that they will keep the public informed, asking for patience and cooperation while the investigation continues. "My administration remains committed to transparency, public safety, and ensuring that justice is served," Simmons concluded.
