Over 14,000 car seats have been recalled. As reported by People, the recall specifically affects six separate models of Britax car seats.
A notice by the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration detailed the issue. It explained that the car seats may contain a loose screw in the seat's carrying handle. This means that there is also a risk of the handle partially detaching.
Per the recall notice, this means "a child may fall after a partial detachment, increasing the risk of injury."

What Specific Car Seats are Affected?
The list of affected car seats are as follows:
- Britax B-Safe Gen 2
- Britax B-Safe Gen 2 Flexfit
- Britax B-Safe Gen 2 Flexfit Plus
- Britax B-Safe 35
- Britax B-Safe Ultra
- Britax Endeavours
These are easily identifiable by the brand name Britax which is printed on the car seats themselves: it is important to note that the affected products are "discontinued", according to Britax.
Anyone who owns the impacted car seats will be mailed recall notices by October 19. Those who have affected car seats can register their seats on this website to get updates from Britax.
It is currently unclear as to how the recall itself will work. However, there are plans for a "remedy kit" which may replace the affected screw itself.
Britax Released a Statement
The company also released a statement about the recall. "Britax is announcing a voluntary, precautionary product safety action directing certain discontinued B-Safe and Endeavours model car seats last manufactured on May 16, 2023," they wrote.
"We have identified that, in rare cases involving extended use and wear, the carry handle may partially detach, creating a potential hazard. There have been no reports of serious injury associated with this condition."
"Many of the potentially affected products are also nearing the end of their designated expiration period," they clarified. "Caregivers are reminded never to use an expired car seat, as outlined in the product user manual."
"Products subject to this safety action should be carried or lifted by the shell until a remedy kit becomes available."
"At Britax, children's safety is at the heart of everything we do - we are taking this action out of an abundance of caution to support families, provide clear guidance, and also make an appropriate remedy available to affected customers."
