Ehrlich, who was traveling from Colorado to Washington State, had left her car in Missoula. Two days after her disappearance, the Missoula Police Department confirmed that they believe she drowned in the Clark Fork River.
"It is with deep sadness that we share the tragic news regarding the search for Danit Ehrlich," police spokeswoman Whitney Bennett said in a statement. "Our hearts go out to her family, friends, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time."
The department also announced that the search for Ehrlich's body would continue as conditions allowed. Efforts to bring closure to her family remain a priority. Authorities are still searching for Ehrlich's dog, Bamba.
Dog Still Missing
Ground teams and drones have been used in attempts to find the missing dog, but there is no evidence to suggest that Bamba left the river. Authorities have raised concerns about the dangerous conditions in the area. They are urging the public to avoid the search zone for safety reasons, per multiple news outlets.
"While we deeply appreciate the care and concern for Bamba's whereabouts, we are urging the public to avoid the river and surrounding areas due to dangerous conditions," the police department said in a statement.
The area is known for its swift currents, ice, and unpredictable terrain. Police emphasized the risks of further injury or emergencies. "Our priority is preserving life, and we strongly advise against anyone putting themselves in harm's way," the department added.
As the search for Ehrlich continues, the community has shown support for her family and the efforts to find both the missing woman and her dog.
The investigation remains ongoing, and officials say they are committed to providing answers for Ehrlich's loved ones.
