Baltimore County Mother's Kids Alerted Her to Man In Nearby Culvert

Baltimore County mother Unique Wiggins thought her daughter's creative imagination was at work when she told her a "man in the sewer" was disrupting her path home. However, to her surprise, Wiggins learned that the man in the sewer was not some mythical creature that was made up by her child, but rather a real man who she says had been bothering her children.

"It was a Friday, and my daughter, who is 21, called and she was panicking," Wiggins recalled (via PEOPLE). "And I asked, 'What's wrong?' And she said, 'Mom, I'm scared. The man told me I can't walk right here and to just dip.' And I'm like, 'What man?' And she was like, 'The man in the sewer.'"

After hearing her daughter complain about a man in the sewer, Wiggins went to the area near her home and scoped out the scene for herself. That's when she learned that the man was indeed real. Upon her discovery, she confronted the man and called the police.

The Maryland mother doesn't believe that the man should necessarily go to jail. However, she does believe that measures need to be taken to keep him out of the culvert.

"I'm not saying this gentleman should necessarily go to jail. He should not be able to be down there," Wiggins added.

Police Have Previously Tried to Help The Man

In an email sent to PEOPLE on Friday (October 23), a spokesperson for the Baltimore County Police Department said that the man had been identified. He had previously been arrested this past July on a trespassing charge. The department has also offered him available services.

"The County has worked diligently to offer available services to this subject," the spokesperson wrote in the email to the outlet. "Additionally, a no-trespassing sign has been put in place. Baltimore County will continue coordinating public safety efforts and outreach."

However, no criminal charges have been filed against the man over the most recent confrontation.
