Family and friends have held a candlelit vigil in a desert in Nevada after an argument caused a teenage girl to run away from home and take her own life.

The City of Henderson Police found the body of Jennaleah Lin, 17, in the desert area east of Desert Sunflower Circle and Spanish Needle Street, according to a press release. The report explains that Police and Fire departments found Lin's body at 10:42 am on January 5. Detectives at the scene said, "There does not appear to be any signs of foul play."
Lin was reported missing/ endangered on December 30, 2024. In a report by ReviewJournal, the teenager left home after an argument about her boyfriend. The outlet also alleges that Lin may have taken her stepfather's handgun. She used this weapon to shoot herself.

News 3 reported on the candlelit vigil which took place in the desert, around 100 yards from where authorities found Jennaleah's body.
Jennifer Swanson, Jennaleah's mother, addressed the crowd and spoke about the impact of the family's loss. "I don't think we could ever recover, as our home is now broken," she said.
Fighting back tears, Swanson also spoke about Jennaleah's strength. "She would always tell me everything would be OK, mum, we got this. We will figure this out. I would appreciate it if you guys could continue to pray for us. Keep us in your prayers. And if you're a mother or a parent, please hold your child and talk to them daily."
In an interview, a member of the search and rescue team who attended the vigil said, "We have a child. Most people do have children. And as a parent, you understand that. You understand the parent's perspective; you understand the child's perspective. It's a difficult thing to deal with sometimes."
Friends of the family have started a GoFundMe campaign to support the family and help with funeral costs. The page explains, 'Jenna was a beautiful 17-year-old girl with a bright future ahead of her.' At the time of writing, the fundraiser has raised $8,259 of a $13,000 target.
