Authorities have arrested Karla Espinal, 26, from Brooklyn. Police are charging her with assault in the second degree, acting in a manner injurious to a child, and reckless endangerment, according to the New York Post.

The outlet explains that the incident occurred at Espinal's home on Friday night. Officers allegedly took her into custody after they found her 6-year-old daughter 'submerged in a full bathtub.' The child reportedly had blood clots in her eyes, which is indicative of a struggle. She was pronounced dead at Brookdale University Medical Center.

Per a report by People, the NYPD stated, "Pursuant to an ongoing investigation, the following individual was arrested and charged on February 8, 2025, at 1755 hours in the confines of the 75 Precinct."

Police responded to a 911 call to the residence at around 1:30 pm. When they arrived, they found the child "unconscious and responsive." It's unclear who phoned the emergency services. However, another report by the New York Post suggests the father and paternal grandfather were at the house.

Authorities told People, "Emergency Medical Services responded to the location and transported the female aided to Brookdale Hospital Medical Center where she was pronounced deceased."

Police Escorted Espinal From The Residence In Handcuffs

The New York Post has revealed Security camera footage from a few doors down the road. The street is full of emergency service workers, and they appear to wheel the daughter out on a stretcher. Later, Espinal calmly walks down the street in handcuffs, escorted by multiple officers. The outlet also alleges that according to a friend of the father, he suspects his daughter was murdered.

The friend allegedly explained, "He just sent me a message around like 4 o'clock telling me that someone murdered his daughter. He didn't say who." A next-door neighbor reportedly described the family in a positive light. "I see that they are happy. I see the mother loved the girl, and the father is a nice guy." The neighbor also explained that they heard "someone screaming" several hours before the child's death. Another neighbor told the New York Post that the girl was often seen with the parents and was "happy, happy all the time."
