Almost everyone knows that the Scottish rock band was hesitant to cut the song, not believing it fit their profile. However, not many may know that an actress for the film itself suggested the band in the first place.
In the upcoming documentary Simple Minds: Everything Is Possible, Molly Ringwald shares her thoughts and some behind-the-scenes knowledge.
The documentary on the rock band will be showing in theatres from June 13. PEOPLE exclusively debuted the trailer, which included the reaction and insight by Molly Ringwald.
Speaking on "Don't You (Forget About Me)," Ringwald said, "It felt gritty... almost like an obscene phone call — like, in a good way."
She also explained that the band was on her radar during production of the film. "I think I recommended them to [the film's director] John Hughes," she revealed. "I like to take a little responsibility for that."
Jim Kerr Says The Band Feels They've Got More To Prove
The documentary covers the 45-year span of Simple Minds, even in the days of Johnny and the Self Abusers.
Jim Kerr, the lead singer of the band who leads the band alongside guitarist Charlie Burchill, also spoke to the outlet about the documentary.
"It's a hell of a band," he said. "And that's the thing that's really held us in good stead through the years, that whenever we get on stage, we always really deliver."
"It's like we still feel we've got a ton to prove," he continued. "So it feels very much we've got a lot of getting on with. That's first and foremost before anything else."
Ahead of the release of the documentary, Simple Minds also released Live in the City of Diamonds, their latest album. On May 16, they also began their North American tour. It is supposedly their biggest tour in that region in four decades.
So, Simple Minds is making yet another comeback in 2025. The band has a pretty interesting history, so the documentary should prove a good watch.
