Rising country artist Mo Pitney reminisces about meeting one of his country music idols in "I Met Merle Haggard Today."
This new video, which shows a special acoustic rendition of the track, keeps it simple by focusing on Pitney and his lyrics. The 22 year-old describes the encounter as though he were casually talking to a friend, taking from the style of many old-school country legends like Haggard.
It all happened on February 4th, 2013, when Pitney and a friend traveled to see a taping of The Marty Stuart Show outside of Nashville. The big meeting happened at 4:45 p.m, but he only has his words as proof that he spoke to Haggard. In the lyrics, Pitney expresses regret for not taking the time to document the occasion. "What was I thinking?" He asks himself in the song. "Shoulda took a picture with my phone, or at least record him sayin, 'Pleasure to meet you, Mo.'" It's a touching and insightful track that showcases Pitney's incredible songwriting talents that have helped him stand out as an immensely talented up-and-coming artist in the country scene.
