An 83-year-old man has been found safe after spending more than a day missing in a remote area of Grand Canyon National Park.

Gerald Guinn, of Kanab, Utah, was reported missing on July 21 after becoming separated from his hiking partner. The two were exploring the park's North Rim.
A large search operation was launched before rescue crews located him approximately 2.5 miles from where he was last seen.
Missing Man Found Safe After Grand Canyon Search
Guinn disappeared early Tuesday afternoon while hiking near the national park's northeast boundary.
According to the National Park Service, he became separated from his hiking partner in a remote area.
The area was along Forest Service Road 610, also known as Dog Saddle.
About four hours later, authorities received a report that he was missing.
Officials said Guinn was not carrying camping equipment or hiking gear. He was not prepared to spend the night outdoors, raising concerns for his safety.
"At approximately 5 p.m. on July 21, the Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center received a report from an individual who said he had become separated from his hiking partner," the National Park Service said in a statement.
"The two were hiking in a remote area of the North Rim near the park's northeast boundary along Forest Service Road 610 (Dog Saddle)."
Search efforts began immediately. Personnel from Grand Canyon National Park, Coconino County Search and Rescue, and Kane County Search and Rescue joined the operation.
The following day, crews expanded the search using ground teams, drones and helicopters.
Helicopter Helps Locate Hiker in Remote Area
The search ended on Wednesday evening. A helicopter crew spotted Guinn at around 6:30 p.m., approximately 2.5 miles from his last known location.
"Rescue personnel safely extricated Guinn via a litter carry to a nearby roadway, where he was evaluated by emergency medical personnel before being transported," an updated statement read.
"The park also extends its appreciation to Coconino County Search and Rescue and Kane County Search and Rescue for their partnership and support throughout the operation."
Park officials have not released any further details about Guinn's condition following the rescue.
