Missing Country Singer’s Wife Wants Closure as Search Continues

The wife of missing Backroad Anthem frontman Craig Strickland is still searching for answers after the disappearance of her husband last month.

Strickland first went missing on Dec. 26 after he and his friend, Chase Morland, went on a hunting trip in Kaw Lake during severe weather. Morland’s body was found near the pair’s capsized boat in northern Oklahoma on Dec. 28, but search and rescue crews are still on the lookout for the missing singer.

Helen Strickland, Craig’s wife, told ABC News she was incredibly appreciative of the ongoing search efforts from local authorities.

“The canine units (and) the Kay County Sheriff’s Department have been so wonderful to us. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol having gone above and beyond, especially going through this struggle, is the most comforting thing you can have,” she said. “To see how much more work can be done in a specific area, it has given us a lot of rest because we feel like that’ll give us a lot of hope they will find Craig soon.”

Mrs. Strickland also said that the supportive messages shared by fans and friends online has helped her get through this incredibly difficult time.

“Every time there’s a post from some random person who I have never met before that says, ‘Hey, I don’t know you, I’m reading this, I’m praying for you, my heart goes out to you,’ it’s almost like I don’t have to hurt on my own,” she said.

Although authorities and family fear that Strickland’s lifeless body will be recovered somewhere in the throes of Kaw Lake, his wife echoed her family’s desire to know for certain what happened to the beloved singer.

“It’s more painful for us to think he could be underwater,” she explained. “Still, we want that closure in seeing him.”
