Miranda Lambert has opened up about her name and its possible bizarre origin. As reported by Whiskey Riff, she could have been named Jessica instead.
Her birth certificate shows the name Jessica. But she said, "It's literally crossed out"... "and he changed it to Miranda at the last minute." And it makes sense, too—her parents were private investigators in their hometown in Texas.
Of course, as you've probably heard, Miranda rights are the rights that are read to anyone before they are interrogated. "I literally think that I'm named after Miranda rights—so does my mom." While her dad won't fess up about whether that is the case or not, it's a pretty clear-cut thought process.

Her Parents Brought Miranda (Lambert) Rights into the Home
Miranda's parents, being private investigators, brought a lot of women home to help them out over the years. One of her most iconic songs, "Gunpowder & Lead", took inspiration from those people she talked to.
For her, sending the song to country radio was a big risk. "I feel like there's small risks that don't matter in the big scheme of things that didn't pay off, I feel like, but the big ones always did."
The song, in case you weren't aware, is about a woman shooting her abusive husband. "Like, that wasn't that popular to be singing about shooting an abusive husband on the radio, you know what I mean?"
"But I was like, I don't care, because it's something I lived through, like, vicariously through my parents helping women and their kids. And I wrote a song about it, and I wanted it to be heard. It needed to be said."
Her parents have always been in support of her and her work. The Lambert family has been frequent attendees of her shows, per Taste of Country, where Miranda Lambert refers to them as "very special guests".
I think that no matter whether she was named Miranda, Jessica, or any other name, her music would be amazing no matter what. In any case, Miranda Lambert has a pretty cool ring to it, especially now that we know her musical talents!
