Millions of Bottles of Eyedrops Recalled Nationwide

A huge recall of over 3.1 million bottles of eyedrops is underway because of possible contamination. According to NBC4NewYork, "K.C. Pharmaceuticals, Inc. [of Pomona, California] voluntarily initiated the recall on March 3. An FDA notice cites 'lack of assurance of sterility' as the reason." The product was distributed to well-known stores such as Rite Aid, CVS, and Walgreen's.

This was designated a Class II recall as of March 31, per an enforcement report from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).. In fact, that means, per the agency, "a situation in which use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote."

Sterile Eye Drops AC (182,424 bottles recalled), Eye Drops Advanced Relief (303,216 bottles recalled), Dry Eye Relief Eye Drops (1,023,096 bottles recalled), Ultra Lubricating Eye Drops (245,184 bottles recalled), Sterile Eye Drops Original Formula (378,144 bottles recalled), Sterile Eye Drops Redness Lubricant (315,144 bottles recalled), Sterile Eye Drops Soothing Tears (74,016 bottles recalled), and Artificial Tears Sterile Lubricant Eye Drops (549,848 bottles recalled).

The FDA enforcement report dies not mention what to do if you have any of these eyedrops. However, according to Prevention, the most prudent course of action would be simply not to use them.
