Trace Cyrus is all about taking the Kanye approach to garnering fame by being an outspoken contrarian rather than a talented musician. Recently, he has taken shots at 'current easy target' Katy Perry, saying she ripped off Miley Cyrus. As little respect as the guy deserves, I can't help but admit he has a point.

Think what you like about Miley Cyrus, but she's got a hell of a voice, and she's a woman of her own volition. She's been experimental with her sound and original with many of the routes she's taken. Katy Perry is one of the most generic industry plants in modern music. She couldn't produce an innovative track with all the ghostwriters in the world.
All this considered, generic does sell. She still has more than 62 million monthly listeners on Spotify, which is considerably more than Trace Cyrus' 11 thousand. However, Trace believes Katy Perry owes her success to Miley Cyrus.
"I first knew Katy Perry and her team were lame as f*** when her career was first dying," Trace said on social media. "They were like, 'Hmm, what can we do? What worked for Miley? She cut her hair off, and it broke the internet, and everybody freaked out, and she bleached it blonde. We should do that with you, Katy."
Katy Perry is a totally manufactured character, of course. I doubt she's had any say in her appearance, performance, or music for years. It would be very on brand for her managers to try to mirror Miley Cyrus' moves. She knows how to get people talking.
Katy Perry Attempts To Emulate Miley Cyrus
Trace Cyrus believes that Katy Perry failed in her attempt to stay relevant. I would disagree. I think her already terrible music has fallen off somewhat of late, but she's not short of fans. Trace, however, believes her PR team is still scrabbling to help her stay current.
"And then they just tried some EDM song or some s* because EDM is hot... and that didn't f***ing work. Now we're going to send your a** to space. Didn't f***ing work." He kind of has a point, she's still being talked about. But, it may not be in the way her managers hoped.
Katy Perry has never been more alienated from her fans than since her jaunt into space. She's just singled herself out as a hyper-rich, self-obsessed narcissist.
I don't expect Miley Cyrus to pay the slightest attention to celebrity gossip about herself or Katy Perry. She's dealt with her fair share of it in the past and knows how to tune it out. I don't think Katy Perry will have anything to say about a nobody like Trace Cyrus either. But it was an interesting take nonetheless.
