The queen of country, Dolly Parton, teamed up with goddaughter Miley Cyrus on Nov. 29 for a duet of Parton’s signature song, “Jolene,” on The Voice. Cyrus and Parton had a little help with backup from the a cappella group Pentatonix.
The performance took place while a raging wildfire threatened the life of Parton’s theme park Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, TN. But Parton kept her head held high during the performance and made it one of her best. While the 1973 song is one of Parton’s most beloved tunes, Cyrus had a chance to make it her own. Tuesday marked the second time this season she’s performed the tune on The Voice.
Parton, Cyrus and Pentatonix were all wearing black ensembles to deliver the performance. Parton took center stage, trading lines with a modestly dressed Cyrus as Pentatonix beatboxed and harmonized in the background. It was a performance to remember.
Parton also took the stage earlier with Jennifer Nettles to sing their Christmas song “Circle of Love” from the CMA Country Christmas Special and Parton’s Christmas of Many Colors, airing tonight at 9pm ET on NBC.
You can continue to watch Miley Cyrus coach her team on The Voice every Monday and Tuesday at 8pm ET on NBC.
The devastating wildfires in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, TN have threatened the life of Dollywood. The fires have killed at least three people so far and burning hundreds of homes and businesses. They have sent more than 14,000 packing from the resort towns in Sevier County. The officials at Dollywood tweeted on Tuesday night that they have assessed the damage of the theme park and plan to re-open on Friday after staying closed until then to focus on relief efforts throughout the Gatlinburg community.
