Middle School Teacher Accused Of Following Student Home To Ask About Missing Homework

An Ohio middle school teacher reportedly followed a student home to retrieve a missing homework assignment. An investigation is now ongoing, and the school has placed the teacher on administrative leave.

Per a report by WTOL11, the incident took place after school on Wednesday last week. The teacher from Hull Prairie Intermediate School allegedly followed the student home when they were on the school bus. Authorities have not revealed the teacher's identity. The student's father reportedly arrived home and found the teacher at the front door. When questioned, they allegedly said they were confirming the student completed their homework. The class would receive a 'pizza party' if everyone completed the assignment.

The student's father notified the school principal, explaining he had no idea the teacher was planning an after-school visit. According to a police report obtained by WTOL11, the teacher allegedly said he "sometimes does this for students." He also asks permission to follow their buses home. Per People, that the parent told the principal he found the visit to be "really weird and concerning."

The School Has Placed The Teacher On Administrative Leave

Per a statement by Superintendent Thomas Hosler from Perrysburg Schools, authorities have placed the teacher on administrative leave pending an investigation. 'During this interaction, a parent arrived home, confronted the teacher on the front porch, and later emailed the building administrators,' the statement reads. 'The teacher was placed on administrative leave before the start of the next school day, and a police investigation was opened about the incident.'

Hosler stresses that he cannot share many details as the police are now involved. He also explains that teachers are expected to respect professional boundaries.

"Perrysburg Schools is committed to maintaining a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for all students. Staff members are expected to uphold professional boundaries and exercise sound judgment in accordance with their legal, professional, and ethical responsibilities. When a staff member's actions do not align with these standards, the district will take action."

The statement thanks the student's father for quickly reporting the visit. 'We encourage all students and families to speak up whenever they have concerns about staff conduct so we can address them right away.'
