Influential country artist Mickey Gilley is recovering after sustaining injuries from a serious car accident.
According to KFDM, 81-year-old Gilley and his son, Michael, were involved in a collision just outside of Lufkin, Texas on Wednesday, Jan. 3. The pair were on their way to Branson, Mo., where Gilley owns and performs at his own theater, when a car ran a stop sign in front of them. The Gilley's vehicle was clipped by the car, causing their SUV to flip over multiple times before rolling into a median.
Mickey Gilley suffered a broken ankle and shoulder. Michael Gilley was sore but otherwise uninjured. It's unclear if Mickey Gilley is still hospitalized or what his overall condition is following the accident.
Gilley has kept a relatively low profile since 2009, when he crushed four vertebrae when a piece of furniture fell on top of him while helping a friend move. The incident caused him to become temporarily paralyzed, but physical therapy has helped him to walk and perform again.
Most recently, Gilley performed a lengthy set of performances titled the Urban Cowboy Show at his Branson theater with Johnny Lee.
