A metal guitarist has undergone emergency triple bypass surgery after suffering a heart attack. Sonny Mayo is the former guitarist for metal bands SNOT and Sevendust.
According to Blabbermouth, the announcement came in the form of a Meal Train fundraiser. The fundraiser aims to give meals to people who need it - in this case, as the metal guitarist and his wife will be out of jobs as he recovers. The organizer of the fundraiser, Megan Wright, shone some light on the situation.
"Our dear friend Sonny suffered a heart attack and had a life saving triple bypass surgery. Please support Lara and Sonny while he recovers over the next couple months," she wrote.
"The first month home will be full time care taking for Lara and will be the highest risk for infections and sickness so bringing meals to them will support his recovery tremendously! If you can't bring a meal please continue to cover them in prayer," she finished.
So far, almost $10,000 has been raised through the fundraiser. People have also pledged to provide them with a variety of meals, including spaghetti and minestrone.

The Metal Guitarist Has Had Heart Issues Before
But this is the latest in a number of heart issues that Mayo has tragically had to deal with.
According to the Stem Cell Institute, the metal guitarist was previously diagnosed with coronary heart disease after suffering several heart attacks back in 2018. He ended up going to Panama for experimental stem cell treatments.
He had first heard about the treatments through a Joe Rogan Experience podcast. And while he didn't have the money, he set up a fundraiser on GoFundMe.
He wrote at the time, "Specifically for cardiovascular disease, MSC treatments show suppression of self-perpetuating inflammation (which caused my second heart attack), regeneration of heart cells, healing of scarred arterial tissue, decrease in cholesterol levels, and even prolapsed valve regeneration."
In simple terms, that's all stuff that might help people like the metal guitarist.
Either way, we hope that his recovery goes smoothly, and are glad that the surgery went well.
