College Student Loses Entire Family In Motor Crash While They Were On Way To Spend Time With Him

This is one of those gut-wrenchingly tragic stories. It just makes you want to either cry or cringe. Per dailymail.co.uk, "Three members of a Colorado family were killed in a horrific car crash while driving to visit their son at college in Arizona for Spring Break." A family adventure ended in the terrible deaths of Sarah Case, Sophia Case, and Sam Case.

Sarah, 50, and Sophia, 17, lost their lives on March 14. Sophia was just a day away from turning 18. Sam, 50, passed away four days afterward. Per the outlet via The Coloradoan, they were headed to Phoenix to see their son, Montgomery. He is 22 years old and attends Grand Canyon University. Another son, Keaton, was planning to fly out to Arizona to join his other family members.

What Apparently Caused The Crash That Led To The Deaths Of Three Members Of The Case Family

Per the outlet, "A preliminary investigation found the deadly crash was caused by a semi-truck that rear-ended a Cadillac Escalade, causing a chain reaction that involved a Jeep wrangler and another semi-truck." Possibly complicating the situation was the heavy traffic noted by the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

Sophia Case's Basketball Coach Is Grief-Stricken

Joe Packard was Sophia's basketball coach at Heritage Christian Academy. He shared, per the outlet via KDVR, that he is leveled by the horror of this awful crash. Packard went to Arizona to be with Sam Case prior to his passing. You can sense the overwhelming anguish he felt simply by reading his words.

Packard said, "I honestly just fell down where I was I just fell down and you just think this can't be possible. I spent some time with Sam in the hospital in the remaining days Sam was alive."

He added, "Sam and Sarah were as generous and faithful as any parents I've seen in my 20 years at Heritage Christian. Sophia followed in their footsteps as Keaton and Montgomery did at school and in sports before her."

Sophia's School Releases A Statement

Sophia Case was a valued member of the Heritage Christian Academy community. The school issued this statement. "Heritage has suffered a tragic loss in our school family. Please pray for the Case family as well as the Heritage school family as we cry, grieve, and pray together for the unimaginable loss of members of this beloved family."
