As PEOPLE reports, the new wave band's bassist, Peter Hook, does not plan to stand with his old bandmates during the ceremony.
Why Doesn't Peter Hook Get Along With New Order?
After the death of Ian Curtis in 1980, the three surviving members of Joy Division - Hook, Stephen Morris, and Bernard Sumner - formed New Order with Gillian Gilbert.
Hook said he believed the band was breaking up and left in 2007. After the remaining members reunited without him in 2011, a legal battle over royalties lasted until 2017.
Hook frequently tours with his new band The Light, playing Joy Division and New Order songs. Despite resolving the legal dispute, Hook continues to voice criticism regarding the band's work in his absence.
"It's hilarious because [fans] come to me complaining about [the current lineup]. I go, 'What the f***? Why do you think? I'm here and they're there. Just don't go!' The answer is, don't go," he said. "If it annoys you, don't go. Don't give them your money. It's a very strange predicament to be in."
Hook Says A Reunion "Doesn't Look Good"
While Hook is looking forward to taking his place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, he doesn't believe he will perform with his New Order bandmates.
"It doesn't look good, mate," he said. "I'm sure there's someone you can't stand, and you don't see him or her or whoever. You think you'd kill her if you came across her. And chances are if she came up and gave you a hug, you'd go, 'Ohhh.' So how the hell do I know?"
He added, "If Bernard pops his head around and goes, 'Hey Hooky, sorry about that eight-year legal battle that cost you six years' wages. I'm really sorry about it. We should maybe have just had a chat about it.' So you never know, dear. Life is full of surprises. I'm sure that could be a lovely one."
