A 46-year-old Maui anesthesiologist, Gerhardt Konig, allegedly attempted to murder his wife, Arielle, by bashing her head with a rock. Konig allegedly also attempted to push Arielle off a hiking trail at the Pali Lookout in Oahu.

According to Hawaii News Now, the incident took place on Monday, March 24. Before he was caught, Konig was last seen at around 10:30 a.m. near the Pali Lookout area. Konig had allegedly attempted to push his wife off a trail only to strike her head with a rock later.
Law enforcement sources told the outlet that the assault stemmed from Arielle's refusal to take a picture with Gerhardt Konig. Moreover, Konig allegedly produced two syringes he pulled out during the assault and attempted to poke Arielle with them.
As per the Honolulu Star Adviser, the 36-year-old Arielle was rushed to a local emergency room at around. She suffered "multiple facial and head injuries," according to Honolulu Emergency Medical Services. The Honolulu Police Department confirmed that Arielle is currently in critical condition.
Arrested
Hours after Arielle was rushed to the emergency room, police located and arrested Gerhardt Konig near Pali Highway at around 6:40 p.m., as per Hawaii News Now. According to local police, charges are pending.
According to KHON2, Gerhardt Konig works for an independent entity. However, he is contracted to provide his anesthesia-related services through Maui Health. When prompted about it, Maui Health shared a statement with the outlet. They announced that Konig has been suspended, pending investigation.
"Maui Health is committed to patient safety and upholding the highest standards of care," the statement reads. "We have been made aware of the allegations against Gerhardt Konig, MD. Dr. Konig has been suspended from the Medical Staff pending investigation."
"Dr. Konig is employed by an independent entity contracted to provide medical services at various medical facilities on Maui, including Maui Memorial Medical Center. Maui Health takes these concerns and the safety of its patients very seriously and will cooperate with authorities as appropriate."
The Division of State Parks of the Department of Land and Natural Resources shared that Pali Lookout was "closed indefinitely due to police activity in the area."
