Matthew McConaughey Announces His First Memoir, 'Greenlights'

Beloved actor, professor and philanthropist Matthew McConaughey can add author to his list of accomplishments. The Texas-born celebrity has announced that he's releasing his first memoir, Greenlightson October 20, 2020.

McConaughey announced the book on social media, explaining that Greenlights stemmed from his personal journal entries and grew into a book that goes beyond the traditional memoir. The new book, showcasing McConaughey's musings on life, is both an advice book and a chronicle of the superstar's life experiences.

"Ever since I learned to write, I've been keeping a journal — writing down anything that turned me on, turned me off, made me laugh, made me cry, made me question or kept me up at night. Two years ago I worked up the courage to take all of those journals off into solitary confinement just to see what the hell I had. I returned with a book," McConaughey said, holding up the book and showing off the cover. "This is my sights and seens, my nices and means, successes and failures, stories, people, places, poems, prayers, prescribes and a whole lot of bumper stickers."

The Oscar winner shared the meaning behind the book's title.

"It's called Greenlights because it's a story of how I have and we all can catch more of them in this life we're living. We don't like the red and yellow lights because they take up our time, right? But when we realize that they all eventually turn green, that's when they reveal their rhyme. That's when life's a poem and we start getting what we want and what we need at the same time. I call that the honey hole. A little place called heaven on earth."

The memoir is available for pre-order now.
