The New York Post obtained the disturbing surveillance footage of a large tree crashing onto the sidewalk and almost slamming down on a family of three. The group were walking by a tree on someone's front yard when it decided to come tumbling down.
Thankfully, the group had just passed by the tree as it started looming. They rushed to clear a gap between them and the collapsing tree. The video goes on to show their shock and brief panic.
Two cars were also parked next to the tree's splash zone. It seems that luck was on everyone's side in that moment.
WPIX-TV News reported that the incident happened in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, on Saturday. The family involved spoke to the outlet, and recall their feelings in the intense moment.
Ben Kerstein told the outlet, "The first reaction, the first second was shock, and by the second, I realized this was from God, and God saved us, so all we could do was dance and thank God for saving us in that moment."
Family Thanks God For The Narrow Escape
"We're Jews and that was no doubt God, there's no question, he put us there for a reason, to have that happen right before our eyes and save us for a reason too," Shelly Kirsten said.
Eerily, the husband commented on the tree as they were passing. Apparently, the tree didn't take too kindly to his comments.
"Oh wow, check out that tree, it looks like it's a thousand years old and then we continued walking," she recalled the husband saying.
Shelly continued, "We ran and the whole thing splintered to pieces and because it was so old, it splintered to dust, and as you see in the video we are just standing in complete and utter shock about what happened."
It's definitely a few seconds that'll be burned into their brains forever. Having such a close encounter is enough to change someone. Although the tree was incredibly old, it would have been heavy enough to cause lethal or severe damage should it have struck any of the family members.
