Four students were hurt as a result of a mass shooting at Wilmer-Hutchins High School in Dallas, Texas, on Tuesday, April 15. Three of the injured students were shot, and one was grazed, as per officials. In 2024, a shooting at the same high school injured one student in the leg.
Mass Shooting At Texas High School Leaves 4 Injured A Year After Shooting At Same School
"Police are responding to a shooting incident at Wilmer-Hutchins High School," the school district wrote on X. "Safety protocols have been implemented, and we are asking everyone to refrain from coming to the campus. Reunification plans will be shared shortly."
The shooting itself, as per NBC, took place at around 1 p.m. According to a student's parent and a student, both of them talked with the outlet, a total of six shots were fired in the school.
"We were in class and I saw him walk by and then two seconds later I heard like six shots," the student, a female junior, said. "The teacher ran to the door and closed it, and told us to hide in the corner."
According to Fox 7, Dallas Mayor Pro Temp Tenenel Atkins revealed that the three people shot suffered non-life-threatening injuries. However, Dallas Fire-Rescue (DFR) confirmed to NBC that the victim's injuries ranged from non-life-threatening to serious. The students' ages were 15 to 18, as per the DFR.
Parents Worried, Details Revealed
Worried parents shared what their children had to undergo during the shooting. Jose Morales told NBC that his wife and two children were inside the school. According to him, the shooter shot straight in the direction of his daughter. She rushed into the counselor's office, where her mother was at the time. His son was in another part of the school.
"I'm feeling very anxious, I just drove from Fort Worth. I left my job and came straight over here, so I haven't seen her yet. The kids are still inside the school. My kids are still trapped inside the school. They won't let them out, they're inside the school."
Another parent, LaTara Dobbin, told NCB that her son jumped from a window and ran toward a nearby elementary school.
"This is going on too much at this school," Dobbin said. "Last year, my oldest son was a senior here, and there was a shooting. Now he's here, and the same thing is going on. It's ridiculous. It's ridiculous. I'm going to have to transfer him or something because this is going on too often here."
Dobbin refers to the April 2024 shooting that took place at Wilmer-Hutchins High School, in which one student was shot in the leg. Students staged a walkout in protest, seeking answers from authorities. Back then and in this most recent shooting, the high school metal detectors were reported to be working.
Dallas Mayor Eric L. Johnson issued a statement addressing the shooting.
"I'm deeply troubled to learn that a shooting has taken place at Wilmer-Hutchins High School in Dallas," Johnson

How is this murderer going to pay the victims family 5 million dollars while serving so many life sentences? Asking for a friend.
They'll likely get what they can from liquidating his assets, which I can't imagine at 21 he had much. Whatever they can get will be split however it was decided in court but I doubt most of them will get much. If some random, misguided relative left him money in the future that would also go towards paying the victims.
He should go straight to death penalty!
The scumbag will spend the rest of his life in a Texas prison. He might end up wishing for death. And the wishes of the victims' families should matter.
In a Texas Prison and he killed all those people because of the "invasion of Mexican people".....Oh yeah....this guy will die.
Its going to be a very bad day for him. ?
