The education center which offers classes to immigrants, was attacked by a 35-year-old man. He entered the building with a rifle and opened fire. After his deadly attack, he took the coward's way out and shot himself.
At least 10 have been killed in the mass shooting. This makes it the most deadly attack in Sweden's history. Naturally, it has left the nation shaken. The Prime Minister of Sweden has dubbed it "a very painful day for all of Sweden"
Police services are still searching for bodies among the carnage. But, thankfully, none of the victims were children. Some houses often have children in them on the campus.
Sweden Shocked By Devastating Mass Shooting
Following this, Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson has spoken to the nation and the press about the devastating mass shooting that has shocked Sweden. "Today, we have witnessed brutal, deadly violence against completely innocent people."
He continued, "This is the worst mass shooting in Swedish history. Many questions remain unanswered, and I cannot provide those answers either. But the time will come when we will know what happened, how it could occur, and what motives may have been behind it. Let us not speculate."
He doesn't want to sensationalize the attack or give any kind of credit to the motives. Like any mass shooting, the killer was mentally unwell. Whatever the reason for the attack, it was an action of madness. There is little more to it than that.
They would be wise to highlight the tragedy of the situation and keep the man's name and alleged reasons from the front pages. Sensationalization of these kinds of attacks is what drives so many in the US to copy. Sweden has seen shootings before, but nothing on this scale.
The students were forced to take cover in their classrooms as shots rang out around the campus. As police moved in and secured the school, the injured were taken to a nearby hospital. So far, at least ten people have been confirmed as killed in the mass shooting.
