Multiple people were seriously injured, and two have died after a shooter opened fire on Florida State University's (FSU) Tallahassee campus. This happened on Thursday after an active gunman was reported on campus. According to the New York Post, the police have taken one person into custody.

FSU Campus Mass Shooter Kills At Least 2 People
All students on campus heard the emergency alert system warning them to find shelter due to the mass shooting. The gunman opened fire near the Student Union area just before noon.
This horrifying incident left six people hospitalized at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, said a spokesperson to WCTV. One of the victims was in critical condition, while five of them were in serious condition. The most recent update per People tells us that at least two people have died since the shooting. We don't yet know if those two were among those in the hospital.
For a couple of hours, the school blasted the emergency alert. Around 2 PM, the authorities finally managed to catch the suspect and place them in custody. During this time, FSU buses began rolling in to take students off campus while police arrived at the scene.
"All classes and university events including athletics events scheduled for Thursday, April 17, 2025, have been cancelled," said Florida State University in a
Facebook post. "Individuals not already on the main campus at this time should avoid coming to the Tallahassee main campus."What We Know About The Suspect And The Shooting
From what we know, police found a handgun on the suspect. On top of that, they found a shotgun at the campus's Student Union and another gun in the suspect's car. WCTV reported that students in the area heard around 15 to 20 gunshots go off. They then scrambled to flee the scene and sought shelter in a church across the street.
They also spoke with an economics senior, Gabriel Santoro, who described how it all unfolded. His classmate was presenting a research paper when suddenly, students noticed people running outside. "We kind of all realized something was going on," said Santoro.
"We got the desks and started piling them against the door." This happened right before they got the emergency alert from the university.
We currently don't have information on who the person in custody is. This information should become available as the investigation continues.
