Martina McBride's Father-In-Law Passes Away

John Douglas McBride, the father-in-law of country star Martina McBride, has passed away at the age of 85.

The "Concrete Angel" singer made a bittersweet farewell to the elder McBride on Instagram Jan. 8. McBride posted a photo of a country kitchen table and recounted fond memories of her beloved in-laws.

"I've had more great meals and great memories around this table than I can count. My mother-in-law was a fantastic cook and amazing hostess and right by her side for 59 years was her husband John. The two were the best people I have ever known. She left us two years ago and we have said our goodbyes to them both now. I'm just happy that they are together again."

According to John McBride's obituary, McBride died peacefully on Friday, Dec. 30, 2016. Furthermore, McBride was an Air Force veteran out of New Hampshire before practicing law in Wichita, Kan.

John McBride's son, also named John, was a sound engineer for Garth Brooks when he met Martina. In turn, the younger John McBride ended up helping Martina McBride get her start in the music business. The two married in 1988.

A celebration of the elder John McBride's life took place this past weekend, on Jan. 7, in which McBride took the photo for her most recent Instagram post.
