Maren Morris is weighing in on the current state of country music.

Speaking with Rolling Stone, Morris says that she is much more optimistic about the state of the genre. But she said that she doesn't regret speaking out about her criticisms of country music.
"I never have a moment of, 'Gosh, I would be in a much different place, a better place career-wise, if I had just played the game and kept my mouth shut and kissed the proverbial ring,'" she said. "I feel a little bit more at peace and vindicated, because I've not changed my tune."
Over the years, Morris has brushed with some of the people in the genre. She infamously had a feud with Brittany Aldean, who she called "Insurrection Barbie."

"I think that's what chaps anyone's a-- who thinks it's offensive, because, deep down, they're like, 'D--n, that's good,'" she said. "Anyway, it's child's play compared to 'Quiet, piggy.'"
Morris is in a better place as far as her career and her thoughts on country music. Previously, she said that she never wanted to leave country music but had to share her thoughts.
"As an artist, and as a Texan, I feel like I have pretty thick skin," she began. "You have to if you're in this line of work. But for years I've seen comments on my videos, or articles posted about me that say, 'She said she hates country music.' And it's exhausting because I can't reply to all of them and be like, 'Cite your source.'"
She said that she loved country music.
"I love country music, full stop. It's my home," she continued. "I grew up loving it in Texas, being so proud that so many of my country heroes are from that state. It made me want to be a songwriter. My dad bought me an acoustic guitar. I taught myself how to play and write songs in my bedroom as a kid. And then I moved to Nashville and made my dreams come true."
