Morris and Hurd married on March 24, 2018, after dating for more than two years. Hurd proposed in July 2017. The two met while working as songwriters prior to Morris' breakout hit single "My Church." The two were specifically writing Tim McGraw's "Last Turn Home" on the day they met. They share one child together — a son named Hayes — who was born in March 2020.
While the impending divorce marks an upturn in Morris' personal life, the singer recently made a major change in her career. Upon releasing her new songs "The Tree" and "Get the Hell Out of Here" in a project she calls The Bridge, Morris revealed her intent to leave the mainstream country industry. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Morris cited the deepening political divisions — and their affect on country music — as her reason for leaving.
"The stories going on within country music right now, I've tried to avoid a lot of it at all costs," she told the publication. "I feel very, very distanced from it."
As of the morning of Oct. 17, Hurd's latest post on social media was a message of support for Morris after the release of her new songs. In a lengthy post shared on Sept. 20, Hurd wrote that Morris "deserves to be celebrated, not just tolerated." He continued in the caption, perhaps referencing the controversies Morris has endured in recent years (like her feud with Jason Aldean's wife, Brittany).
"I'm so sick of watching my wife get the sh-t kicked out of her by the internet," he wrote. "I'm sick of every talking head having some kind of stupid opinion about what she says. It's the same every time, why are you surprised when she calls out something racist or homophobic, I'm sick of people getting rewarded for it. To me the Bridge is beautiful and so rock and roll. She deserves a little sunshine for the burden she has carried for every artist and fan that feels the same way."
Morris' latest post featuring Hurd was on Sept. 3. The singer shared a slideshow of photos from summer, including a selfie of the two of them attending the US Open and a photo of Hurd sitting outdoors.
Hurd is also a recording artist, and he released his debut album, Pelago, in 2021. The two released a hit duet, "Chasing After You," in February 2021.
Neither artist has commented publicly about the split.
