Tragedy struck at Knights Inn in Broome County, New York, when a fire engulfed the motel, leaving six people dead and 73 displaced.

Police said the Endwell Fire Department "arrived to find heavy black smoke in the front of the building and flames showing from the rear of the building."
A suspect is in custody for allegedly causing the massive motel fire that police said "spread rapidly."
Tyler J. Russell, 24, was arrested and charged with six counts of second-degree manslaughter, a class C felony. He is also charged with one count of arson, New York State Police (NYSP) announced in a press release on Monday, June 22.
The fire broke out on Monday at approximately 6:01 AM at the Knights Inn motel on East Main Street, according to the press release.
Six people died in the flames, two were hospitalized and dozens were displaced.
Ten fire departments and four ambulance companies responded to the fire, according to State Police.
Press & Sun-Bulletin estimated that roughly 73 residents were displaced.
Red Cross is assisting with shelter and clothing for the motel fire survivors.
The identities of the deceased have not been publicly released.
"First and foremost, our deepest thoughts and continuous prayers are with the victims and their families. Who were impacted by this morning's tragic events," the Endwell Fire Department said in

The exact cause and origin of the fire was not immediately released by police.
Still, as a result of the ongoing investigation and after consultation with the Broome County District Attorney's Office, troopers arrested Russell on manslaughter and arson charges that same day. He was booked into the Broome County Jail.
Police said additional information, including the victims' identities, will be released later.
