The incident occurred on January 30 at around 11:45 pm in Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin. According to local news outlet WeAreGreenBay, officers responded to a 911 call from a woman who told authorities that a man pointed a gun at her while inside her residence on North Butler Street.
The outlet explains that the man is 31 years old and from Chicago, but authorities have not revealed his name. After threatening the woman, the man allegedly tried to leave the area in an Uber. However, the Fond Du Lac Police Department learned that the 31-year-old suspect was also wanted by US Marshalls. He had a federal parole warrant for "possession of a machine gun and dangerous drugs."
In response, the FDLPD set up a perimeter around the house, and officers captured the suspect without incident. Officers also noted that five children were at the residence when they arrived, ranging from "newborn to 13 years old." Police reportedly recovered a firearm from the scene, but nobody in the house was hurt.
The Man Is Being Held In Fond Du Lac County Jail
Per a report by NBC26, authorities are holding the suspect on a federal parole warrant in Fond Du Lac County Jail. The outlet also interviewed several people from the area.
An eyewitness who lives nearby said, "There was Swat outside of our house. It was actually just like three houses down from our house. There were just a couple of cars just sitting out there." "It's not really surprising. Like, it's really messed up that happened to somebody, but I'm not surprised by it."
NBC26 also interviewed Scott Patten, who drives 'ride shares' in the local area. He explained that as a driver, you never know who will book a ride with you and get in your vehicle. He also says that he'd purchased a dash cam for his car in case a similar situation arises. Patten also demonstrates the safety features of the Uber app and how there's even a button to call emergency services immediately.
Even after taking precautions, Patten added, "If your gut is telling you something is wrong, I would just cancel the ride and move on. Don't risk it."
