Man Slips Out of Handcuffs and Takes Control of Dallas Police Car With Officer Inside

The police officer inside was "thrown around" as they tried to taser the suspect. He ended up ripping the taser wires off and kept driving.

A man has been arrested after taking control of a police car mid-traffic stop. According to Yahoo!News, the man had been handcuffed but managed to slip out of them before performing the crazy stunt.

The incident happened on May 30 in Dallas, Texas. Officers Kante and Harper had stopped a vehicle at around 5:35 pm local time. They arrested the man inside for charges including driving with an invalid license, possession of a controlled substance, and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Footage released by Dallas police shows the suspect being restrained by cops after his arrest because he removed one hand from his handcuffs.

When he was put into the squad car, he ended up clambering over into the driver's seat. A police officer was still in the car as the suspect began his mad dash. He ended up driving at around 50 mph as he attempted to flee.

Footage showed Officer Harper, who was in the squad car, fighting with the man to get the car back under control. A taser was unsuccessfully deployed as the suspect ripped the wires off himself.

The suspect ended up exiting the driver's side door at around 50 mph, sustaining injuries. Harper managed to regain control of the vehicle, avoiding a crash.

The suspect was later identified as 37-year-old Stacey Huffman.

This Isn't the First Time This Has Happened

But, strangely enough, this isn't the first time something like this has happened.

A similar, but arguably more dangerous, incident happened in 2024, according to The Independent. Gary Porter had been arrested when the chief of police in Paris, Maine, took him to jail.

But when he stepped out to escort Porter inside, he somehow managed to get into the driver's seat and drove off. While the chief attempted to stop him, he got thrown right to the ground.

A wild chase ensued, but Porter ended up crashing his vehicle. But the even crazier part—he stole another vehicle while under gunfire.

Of course, he ended up getting caught after getting shot non-fatally, but still, things could have ended up being much more deadly.
