If someone called you out of the blue and said that you won a $1 million lotto prize, what would you think? That you suddenly got very lucky? That fate smiled on you for a change? Or that somebody was trying to con you? Well, something like that really did happen to a man recently. Turns out that phone call was the real deal.

Per People, "A South Carolina man is a million dollars richer — but almost missed out on his massive prize when he thought his lottery win was a prank!" The new millionaire, who lives in Columbia and has not disclosed his identity, shared with lottery officials that, "I thought it was a joke." He also reportedly said, "It's unbelievable. Its more money than I have ever seen in my life."
The Winner Got A Phone Call From The South Carolina Education Lottery
This sounds like something from a movie or a sitcom. The lucky winner was called by someone from the South Carolina Education Lottery and informed that he won a million dollars. He casually shrugged it off, believing that the happy news was not authentic.
He Then Called His Wife And Told Her
The man's wife was equally flabbergasted and skeptical. Per the outlet, she said, "What? Oh. come on." Fortunately, they did not forget about it. Some instinct must have kicked in and told them to investigate this further. They did. The couple contacted the Claims Center of the Lottery. They got something they never dreamed of - a check for $1 million. Not a bad for a day's haul!
The Couple Actually Won Their Prize Last Month
Per the outlet via a press release, "...[T]he Columbia couple won the prize back in April when the husband played the Royal Millions Second-Chance Promotion. His lottery ticket was selected from the more than 1.3 million tickets received." People were allowed "to enter their winning and non-winning Royal Millions scratch-offs for a chance to win $1 million." The rest, as they say, is history.
The man will be able to remain anonymous. South Carolina, along with 11 other states, permits lottery winners not to have their names revealed publicly. In the meantime, let's hope that he and his wife are enjoying their riches!
