Michael Hewitt, nicknamed Little Mick, had not been in contact with friends or family since June 21. That day, he was set for a short layover in Barcelona before flying to Boston to witness England's World Cup game.

Before boarding a flight bound for Boston, however, Hewitt found himself in a troubling dilemma.

After misplacing his cell phone, which contained his flight tickets, Hewitt was unable to travel to the United States as planned.

Even worse, the 65-year-old soccer fan didn't have any of his contacts memorized. As a result, he was unable to inform his family of the situation,  his brother, Gary, told the US Sun.

"He lost his phone soon after arriving in Barcelona. And didn't know any of the phone numbers stored on it," Gary told the outlet.

"He didn't think to go to the Embassy as he still had his passport and money. So he didn't think they'd be interested," he said.

Instead of seeking emergency services for help, Hewitt opted for the next best choice: settling into a local bar and enjoying the Spanish broadcast of the World Cup.

British Embassy Locates Lost World Cup Fan

Completely oblivious that his family had issued a global search for him, Hewitt was located ten days later in a bar in Barcelona.

The British Embassy in Spain tracked down the soccer fan's hotel through his card payments and put him in touch with his family the next day.

His brother Gary said on Facebook: "Little Mick is safe and well in Barcelona. Blissfully unaware that the whole world was searching for him."

"As a family, we desperately wanted an embarrassingly simple but happy ending to this horrendous episode. We now have that.

"It's amazing what can be achieved when the good people of the world go Marching on Together."

Hewitt has supported Leeds United since the 1960s. He regularly travels overseas for matches, according to BBC.
