A man has sparked outrage online by turning down a $11,000 Super Bowl ticket to instead attend a wedding.

The sister of his wife was getting married the day after the Super Bowl. The video his wife posted to TikTok showed the two of them lamenting the missed opportunity to go to the yearly sporting event. Rather than attend the biggest annual show in the US, he chose to go to the wedding instead.
It was, according to his wife, "logistically impossible" for them to go to the Super Bowl. The next day they had to fly to Mexico for her sister's wedding early in the morning. Given the opportunity for a Mexican wedding or the Super Bowl, I know which one I would choose. Catch me on the beach with a face full of tacos and tequila over football any day.

For the US, the Super Bowl is as big as sports events get. To turn down a chance to get a free $11,000 ticket is like a catholic turning down a chance to meet the pope. It just isn't done. Many of the comments reflect this, with plenty of them blaming the wife for restricting her husband.
"Yeah I would for sure tell my husband to go...it would be my sister's own fault for getting married Super Bowl weekend," one comment adds. This seems to be the consensus for most people. But, there are plenty of others out there who support his decision too.
"One is a lifetime memory (a family member's wedding) and the other will happen again next year, and can be watched on TV later." This is the opinion I share. The Super Bowl is a big show, for sure, and free tickets are a pretty rare offer. But, a family wedding on the beach is much more memorable than watching the same two teams face off again, and a subpar Super Bowl halftime show.
As his wife later pointed out in a follow-up TikTok, it was his choice. Besides, they'll be getting plenty more opportunities to watch the yearly event. It's not like it doesn't happen literally every 365 days. Most people only get married once or twice.
All the Super Bowl highlights can be watched on TV anyway, and you kind of have to be there for a wedding.
