A man in Bayville, New Jersey, ordered the sandwich through a delivery service in April of last year. Imagine his surprise when he found the driver's dentures inside.
This Man Got a Little Something Extra In His Jersey Mike's Sandwich
Fernando Rodriguez ordered the sub in April of last year. That's when he found the dentures of Theresa Gildea, the Grubhub driver who brought him the sandwich.
As reported by the New York Post, court papers filed in Middlesex County last month claim that, upon delivery, the food "appeared packaged and sealed with scotch tape." But then he "discovered foreign objects, specifically dentures, embedded within the sandwich."
Just reading about the incident is enough to turn over the strongest of stomachs. Rodriguez "experienced extreme shock, disgust, emotional distress, nausea, loss of appetite, and physical revulsion" when he saw the dentures, according to the complaint.
Rodriguez's attorney says, "Finding a foreign object that came from another person's mouth, in direct contact with a sandwich, is not only shocking and offensive, but raises serious concerns about contamination and food safety."
The Cops Got Involved
The police spoke to the manager of the Jersey Mike's that prepared the cheesesteak. He said Rodriguez came to the store with the sandwich and dentures. The police report said the bag appeared to have been tampered with.
An officer then called Gildea. She blamed her father. She claimed he was eating at the restaurant, "and it was his dentures inside of Fernando's sandwich," said the report.
The officer didn't buy Gildea's "completely outlandish statements." The police report stated that she eventually confessed, explaining that she had been eating her own lunch. She said she was trying to ensure Rodriguez's order was correct, as there had been "multiple complaints" about incorrect orders.
She allegedly said she "accidentally placed her dentures in Fernando's sandwich," according to the police report.
And in case you were wondering, the officer told her that her dentures could be found at the Jersey Mike's, according to the report.
Grubhub said that Gildea is "no longer contracted to deliver" with the service.
Rodriguez's complaint charges Gildea with "tampering" with his sandwich. It also accuses Gubhub of negligent training and hiring. Jersey Mike's was also named in the suit, which says it failed to "properly package, seal and secure food."
