According to PEOPLE, back on November 30, 2023, police responded to a report of a man walking through a Swan Valley store, completely naked. Said man was Jeremy Best, who was later transported to a local hospital. He was evaluated and treated for mental health and medical concerns but was then released.
However, later that day, Kail Randall called 911. Before the dispatcher answered the call, Kali Randall could be heard repeating "Jeremy" and "Jeremy no," according to an affidavit obtained by PEOPLE. A male voice, reportedly Best, answered with "yes." The man followed with "Get the f*ck back, you're gonna get shot" and "I love you, I love you, I love you."
Murders
Police would then find Kali Randall's body in the couple's home. She had been fatally shot by Jeremy Best. She was pregnant at the time. Police noted that the couple's 10-month-old son, Zeke, was missing. As a result, they named Best as a murder suspect. A day later, they issued an Amber Alert for Zeke, who was allegedly kidnapped by Best.
On December 2, 2023, authorities received a call from hunters on Kepps Crossin Rd in Idaho Falls. According to a news release issued by the Bonneville County Sheriff's Office, the hunters found a man in a sleeping bag. He was naked and "making odd statements."
Upon arrival, police identified the naked man as Jeremy Best. Near him was the body of his 10-month-old boy Zeke. Police noted that Zeke's throat had been cut.
More than a year after his crimes, Jeremy Best pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and second-degree murder in the deaths of his son and wife, respectively. As part of a plea agreement, he will not receive the death penalty but could face life imprisonment. His sentencing is scheduled for July 23, 2025.
