Fraudsters are getting more creative by the day. A recent fraud case is the perfect example. Daejon Labrayae Love, 35, and his alleged accomplice, Taylor Jamie Chan, 18 have both been arrested and face charges of wire fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud, per The New York Post.

The two allegedly began defrauding people in 2022. The duo posed as members of the San Francisco 49ers team, using their ruse as a means to scam women out of money.
"The feds said Daejon and Chan, who posed as Love's financial advisor, had an elaborate scheme where Love would convince female victims he was a wealthy 49ers player or wealthy real estate investor," The New York Post reports. "Love met the women through online dating apps, showing off a luxury lifestyle in person and through social media."
Love's Instagram is reportedly full of photographs and videos of him wearing 49ers clothing while working out. According to authorities involved in the case, Love had relationships with many of the 26 women who have been identified as his victims.
"Love had romantic relationships with many of the victims. (He) Told them he wanted to build wealth and a future together," the DOJ has said.

The scammers had a simple system in place. Chan would reportedly send messages to Love, pretending to have new investment opportunities. Love would then pass on those fake opportunities to his victims.
"Victims sent Love and Chan money due to their belief that their money would be invested in legitimate investment vehicles on the victims' behalf," the FBI has noted, per The New York Post.
"Some victims also loaned Love large amounts of money. If victims did not have cash to invest, Love sometimes instructed them to take out personal loans. In both scenarios, Love assured the victims that they would quickly be repaid."
Love isn't believed to have returned any of the money he scammed from his victims. Furthermore, none of the impacted women have reported a return on their investments. In total, Love and Chan are believed to have conned more than $1.3 million out of their alleged victims.
Both scammers are due to appear in court on Tuesday, September 1.
